I think nothing says summertime like a big ole glass of Sweet Tea.

I love Sweet Tea in the summertime, or any other time really, especially when it is hot. My mama made sweet tea nearly every night when I was growing up. I hardly make it now because people around here drink their tea unsweet which is totally foreign and weird to me.
I like sweet tea. I like my tea to be sweet. I mean really sweet.
I also really like Luzianne Tea. You can use any tea you choose, but for me, it will always be Luzianne. The gallon size bags are awesome and you only need one each time you make a pitcher. Otherwise, I use about six bags each batch I make.
I love to add fresh lemon to my glass, or sometimes I muddle up fresh mint into the bottom of the pitcher before pouring the tea in. We make infused simple syrup with honeysuckle, basil, and mint and I add a little of that or some of our honey to the pitcher sometimes. Mostly I just drink it just like this and enjoy every minute of it.
You may be thinking, who doesn’t know how to make sweet tea. I thought the same thing, but then I had so many people ask me how I made it. Here it is.
I don’t like to let the water boil. Instead, I watch it, and when it comes close to boiling and has plenty of steam I remove it from the heat and add the tea bags.
Make sure you do not pour hot liquid into a glass or ceramic pitcher because it will likely crack. I make the tea in a pot and then transfer over to the serving pitcher. Serve over lots of ice.
Sweet Tea
Ingredients
- 6 bags Luzianne Tea can use a family size bag instead
- 1 cup Organic Cane Sugar
- 1 gallon water
Instructions
- Pour 1/2 of the gallon of water into a pot.
- Bring the water to a near boil. I like it to be hot and steamy, but not boiling.
- Remove from heat and add the tea bags, wrapping the strings around the pot handle so they don't fall in.
- Allow the tea to steep for 4-5 minutes.
- Remove the tea bags and add the sugar, stirring until it dissolves.
- Add the remaining half gallon of water and stir again.
- Once cooled transfer the tea to a serving pitcher and serve over ice.
