Sweet & Simple Valentine’s Day Treats
Hey, there! Grab that coffee and pull up a chair—we gotta talk about Sweet & Simple Valentine’s treats that don’t require a whole day in the kitchen. As a Catholic mom I am always trying to find ways to incorporate liturgical living into our everyday lives. I loved the book The Catholic All Year Compendium and in it she talks about starting out slowly with figures from our Church history that we already recognize and know, like St. Patrick and St. Valentine. I love that because I will just dive right in, all in sometimes, and then eventually lose momentum. Also, I love that St. Valentine valued the sacrament of marriage so much he was willing to lose his life for it. You can read more about him here if you’d like.
Anyway, back to celebrating with my kiddos. Life on the farm can still be busy in winter, but that doesn’t mean we can’t whip up a little somethin’ sweet with the kiddos.
Now, I’m a firm believer in semi-homemade magic—a little shortcut here, a little homemade love there, and boom! You’ve got yourself a treat that tastes like you spent all day on it (even though you didn’t).
So, let’s get to it!
Three easy Valentine’s treats that’ll have the whole family feelin’ the love.
Quick & Easy Microwave Pralines
Now listen, if you’re from Louisiana, you know pralines are a must-have. But sometimes, we ain’t got time to stand over the stove, stirrin’ forever. This microwave version is just as good and way easier! Trust me. I am a praline snob.
What You Need:
• 1 cup brown sugar
• 2 tablespoons butter
• ½ cup heavy cream
• 1 cup pecans, chopped
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 1 pinch of salt
Instructions:
1. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the brown sugar, butter, pecans and heavy cream.
2. Microwave for about 9 minutes, stirring halfway in between, microwave again for the remaining 4-5 minutes until it’s bubbling, and stir continuously for 3 minutes.
3.Add the vanilla and salt, stir for 3 minutes, then drop spoonfuls onto a parchment-lined pan.
4. Let them cool for 10-15 minutes until fully set. The temperature of your house may affect the time this takes.
5. Try not to eat them all before the kids get one (no judgment if you do).
Chocolate Raspberry Love Bites
Chocolate and raspberry? Ooooh, now you’re speakin’ my love language. Two of my all-time favorite flavors. These little no-bake bites are decadent, but they take barely any effort.
What You Need:
• 1 package of store-bought brownie bites (or mini chocolate muffins), or make brownie bites in mini muffin tins
• 1 tub chocolate frosting (can also make your own, but if in a pinch I like this kind the best)
• ½ cup raspberry jam
• Fresh raspberries
• Powdered sugar for dustin’ (optional)
Instructions:
1. Use a spoon or your finger (no shame!) to make a little dent in each brownie bite.
2. Fill with a tiny spoonful of raspberry jam.
3. Pipe or spread a swirl of chocolate frosting on top.
4. Garnish with a fresh raspberry and a dustin’ of powdered sugar if you’re feelin’ fancy.
5. Serve and watch them disappear
Brownie Bark with White Chocolate & Sprinkles
Sometimes, you just need somethin’ crunchy and chocolatey to snack on, and this brownie bark hits the spot. Plus, it’s so easy the kids can do most of the work!
What You Need:
• 1 box of brownie mix (plus ingredients on the box) – I LOVE Ghirardeli
• ½ cup white chocolate chips, melted
• Valentine’s sprinkles
• Sea salt (trust me, just a pinch makes all the difference!)
How to Make It:
1. Preheat the oven to 325°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Prepare the brownie mix as directed, but add an extra tablespoon of water to thin it out a bit.
3. Spread the batter thinly across the pan. You want it almost like a cookie, not thick like regular brownies.
4. Bake for about 20 minutes or until the edges look crispy. Let cool completely.
5. Drizzle with melted white chocolate, then add sprinkles and a pinch of sea salt.
6. Once it’s set, break it into pieces and snack away!
And there ya have it, friend—three easy, delicious Valentine’s treats that won’t have you stuck in the kitchen all day. Whether you’re making them for the kids, your sweetheart, or just for you (because mama deserves a treat, too!), these recipes will do the trick.
My kids also LOVE:
Homemade Ice Cream but brrrrr it’s so cold out right now.
Now tell me—what’s your go-to Valentine’s sweet? Are you all about chocolate, or do you love something fruity, too? TJ loves fruity things. If he ate more sweets and wanted a dessert for Valentine’s Day I’d make him a fruit pizza probably in the shape of a heart. <3
Happy Valentine’s from my farm to yours!
