My Fave Fall Decor on the Farm

The first official day of fall is this weekend and it is one of my favorite times to decorate on the farm.

Fall just says farm and mountains to me. Luckily, we get a bit of both here.

Aside from the insanely colorful backdrop for the pond, fall is wonderful because we get have fires at the fire pit and inside the house in the wood burning stove, it’s 🏈football time, we get to tent camp with the boys and of course soup.

Intentional Decor

A few years back our family lost Martha (my father-in-law’s sister) and as a bereavement gift, Momo (my husband’s grandmother) received a gift card to our local garden/general store. She bought yard flags for every season with the gift card and we moved the old rusty Chevy truck to the driveway and we now decorate it for each season in honor of Martha. She loved all things crafty and cute too. She would’ve loved the truck! 🥰

Outdoor Fall Decor

Hay bales: Arrange hay bales in various sizes and shapes for a cozy backdrop for your fall photos. You can stack them to create seating areas or use them as decorative elements.

Pumpkins and gourds: Fall wouldn’t be complete without pumpkins and gourds. Display a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors in a creative and eye-catching way. Consider arranging them on haystacks or alongside colorful fall leaves.

Corn Fodder Stack: AKA cornstalks. These can be used as beautiful vertical accents for your fall decor. Tie them together and lean them against fences or buildings for a charming country feel.

Mums: Chrysanthemums, or mums, are classic fall flowers. Choose a mixture of warm colors like red, orange, and yellow to add pops. Display them in unique containers such as old watering cans, wooden crates, or tin buckets. If you plant certain varieties here in zone 7 before the end of September you’ll have beautiful super mums next year.

Scarecrows: Scarecrows are iconic fall decorations that add a whimsical touch and really do serve a purpose. Pesky visitors can ruin your decor. Although, they don’t keep cows away should the fence get shorted out. I may or may not be speaking from experience. I am. I AM speaking from experience. Create your own scarecrow using old clothes and straw, or purchase pre-made ones to place near your decor.

Porch Decor

Candles and lanterns: As the days get shorter, incorporating candles and lanterns adds warmth and an inviting ambiance to your front porch. Use them to line pathways, adorn tables, or create cozy spaces for farm gatherings. If you want to be really safe and not set anything on fire use the led candles. They really are still very lovely and you don’t have to worry about two rowdy boys knocking them over.

Harvest baskets: Display baskets filled with freshly harvested fruits and vegetables from your farm. Arrange them on farmhouse tables or in rustic crates to showcase the bounty of the season.

Cozy From the Inside Out

Tea Towels: We LOVE tea towels around here and we have lots. They are functional and cute and an easy way to add a seasonal touch.

Pillow Covers: Throw pillow covers are a fun, economical way to reuse the same pillows and bring in the new season. You can snag some for pretty cheap, or make your own.
