Homemade Ice Cream on the Farm
Looking for a simple and delicious treat to beat the summer heat? Look no further! Today, I’m here to share with you my easy homemade vanilla ice cream recipe. The EASIEST homemade ice cream on the planet and if you have an electric ice cream maker it is even easier, but where is the fun in that? This classic flavor is loved by everyone and can be enjoyed as is or paired with your favorite toppings.
Simple Ingredients
The best part about this ice cream is that the ingredients are sooooo simple and the flavor is anything but. When our family from out-of-town we LOVE making homemade ice cream to share with everyone. When it is especially hot outside it makes the best sweet treat. I don’t want junk. Especially when it’s hot, I do not need any extra bloat from ingredients I cannot pronounce.
Ingredients:
- heavy cream
- half and half
- granulated sugar
- vanilla extract
That’s it. That’s all of them. If you don’t have half and half you could even sub whole milk. Talk about simple.
Mixing it up
All you have to do is measure and pour all the ingredients into the ice cream maker canister. No need to chill it or let it rest. We just pour them in and start churning. The little boys love taking turns to crank. We like to use crushed ice if it is available, it makes it much easier to crank. You’ll need rock salt to sprinkle on the ice before you start cranking.
Crank it up
Once you’ve added all the ingredients, have secured the lid and filled the ice cream maker with ice and rock salt it’s time to start churning. Or cranking. You crank, the ice cream will churn. This process takes about 30 minutes or so of real cranking. You’ll feel it start to resist and get some substance to each crank and you’ll know it’s time to eat it. Scoop it out of the canister and add it to an airtight container. You can let it chill for a bit in the freezer before serving or serve it immediately for soft serve style ice cream.

Now, wasn’t that easy? With just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of patience for cranking/churning, you can create your own dreamy homemade vanilla ice cream.
