Homemade Cranberry Sauce
Homemade Cranberry Sauce is what you have been missing at your holiday.
The holiday season is just around the corner, which means it’s time to start planning your festive meals. One classic dish that simply can’t be missed on any Thanksgiving or Christmas table is homemade cranberry sauce. Skip the canned stuff this year (unless you LOVE it, by all means eat that and don’t hate me because I suggested it) and impress your guests with a deliciously tangy homemade cranberry sauce that’s bursting with flavor and freshness.
Homemade cranberry sauce is so yummy! It is literally nothing like that canned gelatinous version that is often served up for the holidays. I love to make whole cranberry sauce! If you haven’t tried it and have only ever had the canned kind, please please give this a try.
Homemade cranberry sauce is easier than you may think and I don’t know about you, but I like to know what it is that I’m eating … usually.
There are only four ingredients in this cranberry sauce. I like to make it and chill it before serving it. You can also home can it if you’d like and here are some recipes with different variations for that.
My favorite part of this, besides knowing exactly what is in it is, watching the cranberries pop when they’re cooked.
So fun!
What can I say? It doesn’t take much to amuse me.
I really encourage you to try to make cranberry sauce. Don’t be afraid even if you think you don’t like cranberry sauce. You may be a convert after eating it.
This homemade cranberry sauce is incredibly easy to make and elevates the traditional holiday meal to new heights. With its tangy and perfectly balanced sweetness, this sauce will leave your guests longing for more. I let it chill overnight for even deeper flavor. It’s great as leftovers too!
Enjoy and happy cooking!
Homemade Cranberry Sauce
Ingredients
- 12 oz Cranberries
- 1 cup Sugar
- 1/3 cup Orange Juice
- 1 stick Cinnamon optional
- 1/2 tsp Vanilla optional
Instructions
- Rinse the cranberries thoroughly and pick out any damaged or bruised ones.
- In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the cranberries, sugar, orange juice, water, and orange zest. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely.
- Lower the heat to medium-low and let the cranberries simmer for around 10-15 minutes, or until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens slightly. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Stir in the vanilla and cinnamon stick and allow it to simmer in there.
- Once the cranberries burst (the best part) and sauce has thickened remove from heat.
- Remove the pot and chill completely. Can even let sit overnight in fridge for enhanced flavor.
