These easy DIY turkey shirts can be made in under an hour if you hustle. I plan to make one for each holiday now.
While my boys are little they are dressing alike. My husband has forbidden me to dress them both in John-johns anymore and says the older one is too big for it.
However, I am not ready to give in completely and not have them matching, or at least coordinating for holidays and special occasions when lots of photos will be taken.
Lucky for me, my mother-in-law (and mama) both collect fabric. So, I always have an ample supply of fabric on-hand.
I started by drawing a feather shape onto a piece of construction paper and then did the same with a turkey body (bowling pin shape). Note: Fold the paper in half when making your pattern and draw along the folded edge so the two sides are equal and mirror each other.
Then I made smaller versions for my two-year old’s shirt in order to scale down the design for his smaller shirt.
I used rick rack for the legs. I burned the edges to keep it from fraying.
Next, I used heat-n-bond and cut it out to make the shapes of the fabric. Once it was cut to the shapes I ironed it on the shirts according to the directions on the heat bond.
After that Mrs. Terry sewed a simple zig-zag stitch around the entire pattern to reinforce and give it that finished look.
I think they’re so cute.
