Christmas is my favorite time of year! I love the colors, the lights, music, joyfulness that is in the air. I love the meaning of Christmas most and love to spend time doing things together with my family celebrating Jesus.
I also love buying presents and wrapping them. I know … gag. Most people dread that, but I absolutely enjoy plotting, planning and packaging things up with a nice pretty bow. Moving up here has caused me/us to look at so many things differently. When I left my job we had a little less than a year to prepare ourselves for the move. We had that much time to figure out how to live on one salary and how to trim the fat.
Well, we still haven’t figured that out.
Every day is a work in progress when it comes to that. Each day I try harder and harder to leave behind the desire for material things that are not necessary for our lives. It is an effort. Believe me. I am a marketer. I am innately attracted to beautifully packaged things and convince myself that they are a need.
Most things are not really needed and since I have said goodbye I don’t miss them. Most of them anyway. It is really tough to resist spending and stick to our Dave Ramsey budget, but we are trying. Man are we trying.
That is why this year I decided maybe we should try a homemade Christmas. One where you really have to think of something the other person would like and pour your heart and soul into it. I have got to say when everyone else was on board I was over the moon. I am so excited to figure all this out, but now I am on a time crunch. Yikes!
Three weeks to get all my presents made and in order under the tree. Challenge accepted.
Today is day one of December and I am going to TRY to post every day this month until Christmas and each day I will make something new and share how I made it.
This morning I went to my first ever Mommy Time Out at my little boy’s school. The ladies there were so nice AND little did I know it was also a bible study for moms called Missional Mom which I am thrilled to be a part of. We also did a craft which I thought was super fun and would be perfect to share for my first day of Homemade Holy Days and Christmas.
This little craft was so easy and the best part is it is all stuff I had lying around the house anyway so I can make more of at any time.
