Apple Butter Making Day: Sharing the Fall Love
This week we held our second annual Apple Butter Making Day that we co-host with our friends from Field & Flour. It’s a new cherished tradition that brings family and friends together to create delicious homemade apple butter.
If you are thinking of hosting your own, here are some tips to set the stage for this heartwarming event, making it an unforgettable experience for all.
We learned a lot last year from our first try and you can read more about that and how we worked to improve some things here.
Farmhouse Kitchen Ambiance
Transform your farmhouse kitchen or outdoor space (which is what we are using) into a cozy haven for apple butter making.
Think checkered tablecloths, mason jar centerpieces filled with autumn wildflowers and grasses, or wooden utensils displayed in vintage crocks. The goal is to create a warm, welcoming space.
Apple-Themed Decor
Embrace the apple theme by incorporating apple-shaped decor elements, or better yet place baskets of fresh apples on the table. For decoration and for eating of course.
Vintage Copper Pot
The heart of Apple Butter Making Day is the copper or brass kettle. Make it a focal point of your outdoor space and easily accessible. It’s a nostalgic nod to the process of turning apples into delicious butter.
Plus, I think it’s kind of necessary because it does not react to the acidity from the fruit and it disperses the heat evenly which helps to prevent scorching.
By the way if you read my post about last year’s event you’ll know that we were TERRIFIED to scorch the apple butter. 🤣
Handmade Signs and Chalkboards
Create rustic signage and chalkboard displays to guide your guests through the apple butter making process. Use chalkboard labels to identify the different apple varieties, spices, and utensils.
Spice and Herb Bouquets
Incorporate the scents of the season by arranging bouquets of cinnamon sticks, cloves, and nutmeg alongside fresh herbs.
Don’t forget the aprons
We encourage guests to get involved in the apple butter making process. There is soooooooooo much stirring going on. All day. So don’t forget your apron to keep your clothes nice and neat.
Rustic Table Settings
Don’t forget snacks. As I said before there is a ton of stirring. You have to nourish your guests. We like to serve soups and apple cider with something sweet. People pop in-and-out all day so we just keep those in slow cookers so they stay nice and warm.
Apple Butter Favors
Send your guests home with a sweet memory by providing a heartfelt thank-you message for their jars of apple butter, for joining in the apple butter making fun. Snag your own here.
Cozy Farmhouse Seating
Arrange seating areas with comfortable cushions and blankets. Use square hay bales if you don’t have enough chairs. Encourage guests to relax and enjoy the process as they take breaks from stirring and ladling.
String Lights and Bonfires
If the day turns into evening, you can illuminate the yard with string lights and gather around a bonfire.
Luckily for me I have an electrician (and he’s a hottie) that can do this for me. It’s my husband in case you don’t know me personally. 😉
The warm glow is the perfect way to conclude the day.
Apple Butter Making Day is all about celebrating the bounty of the season and creating lasting memories. With these rustic farm decor ideas, you can make this heartwarming tradition extra special and make it a cherished annual event for your own community. Happy apple butter making! 🍏🍎🍂
