Making Soap: A Winter Tradition
Soap-making is one of our favorite winter projects, and we love to teach others, too! Our handmade tallow soap is made using fat from our grass-fed cows, and other natural ingredients, for a rich, creamy bar that’s gentle on your skin.
If you’ve ever wanted to try making soap at home, winter is the perfect time to learn. You can even join our Soap-Making Course, where we teach you step-by-step how to create your own bars. The best thing about this course is it is all online and you can do it in your own kitchen, at your own pace. Trust me, it’s easier than you think—and there’s something so satisfying about using something you made with your own hands.
Slowing Down and Savoring Winter
Winter on the farm reminds us to slow down and savor the little things. Whether it’s a warm loaf of bread fresh from the oven, a quiet morning sipping coffee while the snow falls, or an afternoon making soap with the kids, this season is all about finding joy in a slower pace.
And let’s be honest—there’s something magical about sitting by the fire, dreaming about spring and the life it will bring back to the land. Anybody else pouring over seed catalogs and rereading Beatrix Potter? Surely not just me.
If you want to bring a little bit of the farm to your home this winter, check out our soap course and learn to make your very own handmade tallow soap, sip some tea with local honey, or eat farm-fresh (when the hens cooperate) eggs. Sadly, our hens have stopped laying. They are getting up there in years and the shorter winter days are taking a toll on them. We are hoping to get new chicks this spring. If you need to see my tiny baby and how we do that, you can check out this post.
Here are a few of my favorite cozy winter things to help get through those dreary days:

Spring is coming soon! Longer days and green grass! Stay strong friend.
